P1170 code--O2 sensor
I guess I'm going to replace the O2 sensors after reading the Forum and seeing a P1170 code on my Ultragauge (along with the P1590 3 Amigos).
a) can I wait till Friday to do this AND drive it?
b) is it DEFINITELY O2 sensor(s)?

IIRC (P1170) you may wanna go underneath and check for leaks in the catalytic
converter before changing the O2 sensor. There's a post here about it. Do a search
On P1170.

i know this is an old thread but the problems with the p1170 code --is ussually a hairline crack in the weld at the front of the passenger side(bank 1) converter-it spans across the top of the converter and can only be seen with a mirror--it can be fixed with simply running a bead weld acroos the top of the converter(you must drop the exhaust to gain access to it)
or
if your vehicle is still within the 8 or 80 manufacturer's emission warranty the dealer should replace it for free as per the federal gov't

I personally have used the O2 sensors from AB. I have no experience with generic O2 sensors. I know they are available, they usually have a pigtail that you have to splice
your old connector to. I have read posts here about others using them. try doing a search on it.
Given your mileage, you'll probably need all 4 sensors. At 90K miles, they've reached
their expected usefulness. Their declining performance is what triggers your MEL along
with other things. Gotta check other causes.
If I were in your shoes, and springing the 60 is a reach, try swapping just the affected
pre and post catalyst. The code usually clears after 2 driving cycles. If it works out
then swap the other side. If you get 30K miles from them, then you've reached your
break-even point ( 30K / 90K = 20 / 60 ).
Make sure you solder your leads well and use shrink wrap.
Maybe someone else will chime in.
All the best.

I replaced all 4 of my O2 Sensors with OE equivalent Bosch sensors which I picked up from Oreilly's Auto Parts. Your looking at $280, but I believe it is very well worth it. No splicing. Hardest part is unplugging the pigtails.
What you are calling generic are not that but universal in that they have no plugs which means you will need to attach your old plug assembly to them, so no, do it right and buy any brand of 02 with plugs attached, Amazon has some great prices on 02's.
Money's very tight right now, so I went ahead and bought a used set of 4 on ebay from a junked 03 Disco, cost me only 70 bucks total. They look in great shape. But they are a little dark from carbon.
Is there a way to clean these or, due to the sensitivity, is this an absolute no-no? If I can clean em, what do you guys recommend? Or should i just stick em in and see what happens?

Had same code on ultra-gauge, checked for leaks in exhaust, no dice, so I bought new sensor on ebay (Bosch) for 40 a piece shipped. Pooped em in and code has been corrected. Good luck.
ps. Do it right the first time and save the headache.
