Good job getting it to run.

So did you do anything to address the P1590? That's a common code on the D2's, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the MAF.

If not, then you can bet that it will be back...when it does, you'll need to get someone with a code reader that can access the SLABS error codes to determine what is actually going on causing the P1590.

Atlantic British -
Price = Always Bad.

Go with British Pacific in LA area.

Glad you got your truck running.
In San Jose, - you'll put 15,000 miles on it a year.
If you can afford the Gasoline at $5.00 a gallon.

And, if you can pass the Smog test which may cost $50 to $100 a pop.

Oh, and the registration.
Probably $200 to $300 for the license plate sticker a year.

You can check out..
You can never leave.

Default Thanks for help, and, more questions...

Thanks Dave! This is my first Rover, and I bought it with the first order of business to get it running. So far, I have changed out the fluids, the last of which will be the Tranny fluid this weekend w/ new filter. Tore the engine down, had the heads rebuilt and bolted them back on using the AB composite gasket kit along with the complete cooling hose kit. I figured I'd get it all done in one shot. I also relocated the coil packs, and made my own spark plug wires, I used Bosh Platimun 4's, since I couldn't get 2's.. Then upon test fire, I had the issue with the MAF running the truck like garbage. Now, onto the 3 Amigos... It is my understanding though that you can drive the truck as is with 3 Amigos until you are ready to take the plunge into the ABS valve box rebuild mounted on the driver's side well in the Engine Compartment, correct? My plan is to drive it a bit, and then tackle the 3 Amigos at a later time, is that still an OK idea?

Also, I'm feaked out about the front drive shaft (I checked when draining fluids, I don't have the grasable U-Joints), so I can just take the front driveline out, correct, without ill effect? I plan on doing that until I can rework the front shaft. I should get better gas milage as well. Forgive me here, I am an old school 4wheel guy, used to locking hubs, and shiftable 2high, 4high transfer boxes, so this LR is constant 4wheel drive (ALL THE TIME), with no provision for shifting to rear wheel drive only, correct?

Hey, another thought... speaking of gas mileage, how about going to an electric fan instead of using stock fan that rides on water pump. I have successfully deleted stock fans in the past on 5.0's, and went with electric fans, and picked up HP, fuel mileage, and much steadier and controlled temps. Is there a kit to replace stock fan with electric for a reasonable cost that people have used? I'll seach electric fan, and see what comes up..

Anyway, thanks all for your help, I have been reading old threads on LRF non-stop for weeks, and its the best one out there in my opinion.

PS: Once I become a little more savy with forum usage, I will post some pics of the coil pack relocation. I saw multiple threads where people talked about the relocation, but no pics of successful end results, so I had to trailblaze a bit. I most certaily welcome critizism as well after I post the pics, that is how we get better.

You can drive it with the 3 Amigos, just remember you probably won't have ABS or traction control. I'd suggest finding someone to read the SLABS codes before you proceed with the ABS valve block rebuild. There are a number of other errors that could be the problem. Worst case, there is someone (Ed -Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum - View Profile: hilltoppersx) who will rent you an ABS Amigo so that you can read and clear the codes yourself.

Yes. Discos cannot be run as 2wd without significant alteration. Even with dropping a DS and locking the transfer case, little would be gained as you're still turning all of the components...

I don't know how much it will help mileage or HP, but go for it and see. If you make it work, then post up lots of pictures and details. FWIW, I have a friend who runs an electric fan in his SIII Lightweight (converted to a Rover 3.5l v8), so I've seen it done. I'm sure it's been done in Discos too, and I've seen it discussed on a couple different forums, but I can't say I've ever actually seen one in person.

IMO an electric fan could be an interesting option...especially on the trail when you encounter deep water (you could switch it off during water crossings).

Don't hesitate to go check out Discoweb.org too. Folks are a lot rougher over there so thoroughly search before posting, but IMO it has by far the best information and many of the most knowledgeable members. (Nobody over there will put up with someone giving out questionable info, and they won't think twice about telling you what they REALLY think...sometimes this is a good thing.)
