P38 better than???
Has the 2004 disco 4.6 liter motor had more problems than a 2002 Rangie p38 motors? My 2004 dropped a sleeve at 90,000 and never overheated, dealer serviced to exact specifications and pampered for sure. Have heard the rangie motors are in fact better, just curious what you all think. Thanks, BDC
Well since they are the EXACT SAME ENGINE I dont know how the P38 engine would be any better or different than the Disco engine.
They came off the same assembly line from the same factory just 2 years apart.
Hell, they were probably built by the same people.

they are almost the same blocks from what ive been told by auto sports unlimited in michigan.... the only difference ive herd of is the alloy that was used...... different mix for the aluminum in the 99-02 vs the 03-04
Thanks for the replies. I was told by a few techs that the P38's haven't had as many problems and I was wondering if the sleeving could be different. I'm dropping a 2002 Rangie motor in my 04 disco next week-end and was curious if anyone knew anything about them. Thanks again,BDC
The alloy has always been the same on all the Rover V-8's.
The 03 had a bad casting mold that caused Rover a lot of grief/failing oil pumps and engines, but no sleeve issues.
If you are looking at the difference between a P38 and a 04 D2, it is huge both in lack of electrical issues and suspensions. The D2 has a 4.s, CDL and is far more capiable off road.
