My 97 disco is Alpine White. It appears that the hood is either painted with a matte finish or is severely oxidized - it looks quite different from the rest of the vehicle. Before I detail it, thought I'd ask if the hoods (OK bonnets) are painted differently.

My '97 is also Alpine White and my hood is fine, so it has to be your paint, was it repainted (hood) or replaced at some time?

 

My 94 Disco is red, and this was very, very oxidized to a matt finish, but it came back great with a good turtlewax application. If the paint doesn't have metal flake in it, it can usually be polished up. This was the case with my truck.

 

We buffed it out with some Meguiars fine cut cleaner and then waxed it. It's baby behind smooth now and looks great. I don't know the complete history of our 97 but the hood and one of the rear doors look just slightly different in color. Maybe once we finish the detail job it won't be so noticable. They don't appear to be repainted - best we can tell.
