Default paint

I've done a lot of reading about this...I wanted to attack mine last week. EVERYONE says the krylon fusion is the best.

i did mine with 6 coats of wal mart flat black. i went thru one can on each flare. then used an epoxy to stick them back on. they will never come loose again. total cost. $4 bucks for paint and $6 for epoxy. $10 total. I made it thru the winter with no probs so far and i love it.

Sorry if I'm late on this thread.. the issue with the arches is that the black coating on the nylon wears from sundamage. I'm not sure if its a dye that is coated or a rubbery-like thin coat. If you feel the arches, they are rough under the coating. Back to black cant make white nylon black lol. My arches look like crap too.

If you want to totally change the look, and never have to worry again, I came up with a plan for my own Disco and I'm happy to share what I am doing. There is a seller on eBay that sells factory matched 12oz cans of spray paint. You can match the truck, or stick with a satin black. If you buy a single stage satin black spray can, it wont be as good as using a flat black base coat, and then top it with a satin clear. The satin clears have dulling agents, so when you wash or wax it wont get smeary or shiny.

Another thing, Krylon Fusion is good for plastic and cures rock hard, but the way it applies is very grainy even if taking the right steps to prep. I'm just not a big fan of it when trying to do a really great job. SEM makes better trim paint, and I would suggest using that over fusion.

No matter what paint you use, buy a can of adhesion promoter which is like a pre-primer/ primer. I would still use a primer, self etching is best. Make sure to clean the arches well, and do not use paper towel because that rouch nylon will just make lint out of it and it will stick on the nylon and you don't want to paint over that, but might not be an issue after you sand them down. I can't tell you yet from experience.

Bottom line, the arches are no different than bumpers. Plastic can be painted, and has been done forever so it's no black art. Its all about the prep work to ensure adhesion.

goodluck

If you want to go with something other than paint, mine has been rhinolined. I love it. It really changes the look, however it is nowhere near the cost of spray paint.

I also have the snorkel and rock sliders rhinolined, and it goes up to the black trim on the sides.

Awesome looking disco roverlax2. I would love to have all those goodies. And to have them rhinolined is awesome! I am way jealous. Someday mine will look that good.

Rhino Lining is a professionally sprayed-on polyurethane - polyurea elastomer. There are roll on bed liners that you can get from places like autozone, like Herculiner. I think its around 50 dollars for 1 gallon. Thats enough to cover a 6 foot truck bed, so it is a pretty good amount.

Default bedliner

My bfriend just painted his bumpers of his classic with the bedliner spray, just like spray paint. it looks awesome, sorry i don't have pictures. it looks perfect for the arches, and that's exactly what i'm going to do to mine. whoever had my truck before me did a fantastic job messing them up, part of it's rough, part of it's sanded, part gray, part black, paper towel crap is in there...it's awful. but the stuff in the spray can is nice, it comes out thinner than the actual rhinoliner stuff. which is also a nice look.
