Default PCV on 2004?

I'm just doing some routine maintenance and went to clean the PCV, and saw that it is a metal piece solidly inside the valve cover. I ended up just spraying some carb cleaner down the little hole and hooked everything back up. I also took the oil cap off after I put it back together and heard hissing, but it wasn't strong enough to hold a piece of paper to it. Is there a write up for maintenance on the 2004 PCVs?

Clean or replace the oil separator. That's what these engines use instead of a pcv valve.

After researching and reading some more, I've found that the 03-04 are the only ones with this metal piece which is apparently impossible to get out. So, I guess cleaning/replacing it is out of the question? I wouldn't mind just ripping it out altogether and putting a breather filter on there and plugging the intake tube. Anyone done that on an 03 or 04? Again, guys with a pre-03, it is not the same as yours, and unfortunately won't just come out.

The oil separator pulls out from the top (usually in more than one piece), All the valve covers have that plate on the inside. The option is to pull all the pieces out from the top and clean it with carb clean, or throw it away and buy a new one. (the valve cover, the more expensive option)

Hmm, ok so that metal part comes off. In other threads, they had no luck. Do you twist it off, or just pull it? I don't want to replace an entire valve cover. Putting an oil breather on it and plugging the vacuum line after it's out (besides replacing it) shouldn't hurt anything (or set off codes), right?

I guess I meant the metal top with the small hole. I posted a link below this with a pic in the last post. There is no plastic, unless it is under that metal which is seemingly impossible to remove..

I've never seen that metal cap on the right side valve cover breather pipe, just to be sure I looked at Microcat(LR parts manual) and they list the separator for a 2003 as P# LLJ000010, which is the same part number for all Discos (I and II)

Yea, I saw the same part number as well, alas it's there. Guess I will try to pry it off and go from there...
