Default PCV failure?

98 S1 Disco 98 V8 SFI

If the PCV is failing or has failed completely will it throw up a check engine light?

What are the symptoms that the PCV has failed please?

Thanks
Alan

Are either of your PCV hoses plugged, collapsed or cracked and spungy? Do you have a fault code, if so what and what is your engine doing?

No codes
My PCV hoses are the solid plastic type so I don't think they collapsed or split, kinda hard to tell. I believe the hoses and valve are sold as one piece for my type.

Just a crazy high idle but I don't think I have a vac leak because i unclipped the PCV hose from the manifold and unclipped the brake servo hose from the manifold and blocked both the vacuum intakes at the manifold and there is no difference. But what if the PCV had stopped working what would happen?

Your high idle doesn't have anything to do with your PCV.

Your PCV on a DI is on the passenger side valve cover.
it is a rubber hose and inside the valve cover is a oil separator, pull it out with needle nose pliers and clean it with carb cleaner, let it dry and then put it back.
Take that hose to your auto parts store and get a piece of fuel line about 3" longer than that hose, fit onto the truck, cut to length if needed, I used old lawnmower fuel line and a hose clamp.

If the PCV is clogged you will build up pressure inside your crankcase and can blow out seals, like your rear main seal.
You will also speed up corrosion inside your engine from all the moisture and exhaust gas that collects inside the engine.
