Pedal to metal for 5 secs now strange noise...please help!
Hello guys, I appreciate this forum very much. I have read hundreds of postings and gotten a lot of help from them for my Disco 2 repairs. Anyhow, I have a problem that hasn't been addressed before:
I have a 2000 discovery II, 160,000, Runs strong, always maintained properly. I was at a busy intersection and I had to put the pedal to the metal to make it across the lanes and fast approaching traffic. I must have gunned it for only about 5-7 seconds until I was at traffic speed (50). Since then every time I come to a complete stop I feel a vibration, shudder, and noise coming from down below. The car seems to run fine otherwise. The tranny shifts properly, no slipping, smooth. It's not the engine, the plugs are recent, no misfires, etc. The Propeller shaft is recently rebuilt as well. I immediately put it up on my ramps and I checked the tranny fluid, axles, and transfer box, all good and filled to max. Has anybody got a clue to what it could be? I almost thought it was a loose muffler pipe (no, the muffler is perfect). So once again, I feel this only when I come to a complete stop, at a light, or my driveway, etc. Vibrations, slight "clacking like" noise, from right underneath me. I spoke with a family friend and he shrugged and said Torque Converter? So I googled and found DR TRANNY SHUDDER FIX. Tried it just now but no luck, the issue is still there. Would flushing the complete tranny help? I did it last @ 130,000 miles. Maybe it's not the tranny at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it only do it forward or reverse gears when stopped? If you can put it in park or nuetral and make it stop, then it's more likely transmission related. If so, possibly a loose flex plate bolt, or cracked flex plate.
It does it on forward and reverse. Neutral does make it stop. A loose Flex Plate Bolt is a good suggestion, I hadn't thought of that. Do you know if it can it be inspected easily? Or tightened easily? Thank you for the response.
I do not hear the noise when idling in neutral or park. I only hear it when there's a load, when I'm in gear and the brakes are on. You can REALLY hear it when I'm going up my inclined driveway and I hit the brakes halfway up. I'm baffled.
There is a round inspection plate on the bottom of the transmission bellhousing. Pull that off and get a light and/or inspection mirror up there to see. Mine makes a similar noise in those situations. Pretty sure it's a cracked flex plate by eliminating everything else. Also, if you have mechanic stethoscope try to pinpoint it with the car in gear and e-brake up.
