Default Peformance parts

Has anyone seen a difference when driving a DII with a K&N performance airfilter. I am thnking about buying one and i I wanted to know what others might have expeirenced using one. Also what about spark plugs, would they make a difference in fuel economy and overall performance? I am new to wokring under the hood of cars

as for the K&N air filter don't do it!!!! They eat MAF sensors. And their oil filters are great. Spark plugs boil down to ya get what ya pay for. Wires are the best investment for Disco's either Magnecore 8MM or STI's. I personally have the STI wires, but....

K&N air filters don't filter as well paper filters.
If you only drive it around town, and you're very careful with the oiling, you might be ok.

Not too much you can do. As mentioned, 8MM wires and +4 plugs do well and give you a little more low end. I would suggest either stock replacement or the Bosch +4 plugs. The other platinum options don't do as well, and the +4 will have no benefit without the 8MM wires.

Since you are "new to getting under the hood", don't put a K&N on. Oil it wrong, and you will be spending $100 on a MAF.

Check out the major service sticky. New fluids and keeping them clean is the best you can do. If you are close to 100K, start looking into replacing O2 sensors.

As mentioned stay away from the K&N filter. What sort of mileage are you getting, what octane gas are you burning and what sort of tune related work, including wires, have you done so far?

The car is completely stock. The only thing i have added is a gps and a bike rack. The engine is stock and i have not done any work under the hood. I get roughly 10 city and 12 highway. I usually burn mid grade fuel or regular grade depending on where i am filling up. I live in VA and I commute to Maryland. Maryland gas prices are ridiculous so i usually use regular grade when i buy it there. I am 17 and the disco II is mine. My parents drive a range rover 2010 and a supercharged sport 2009. This summer I am getting a job and i am going to receive about 1000$ and i was going to invest that into the Disco II. What do you all suggest I invest in?

Travis, if I were you I would shoot for Disco Mike's 60K check list. The list is detailed (brands and part #'s). Just for comparison I get 16-17 MPG in pure city driving, but I drive very reasonably.

If you ever put another tank of anything under 91 octane in your truck, it will do you no good to ask for help.
I realize at 17, you don't have a mechanical clue, but every time you open your gas door, it says use good gas.
Do my service list, especially the plugs and wires, afterwards get back to us and we will go to the next step.
By the way, air all 4 tires to 40 pounds, this will help also.
