Just installed gray 82C soft spring thermostat from Rimmer Bros. Coolant temps went from 200F to 220F at idle and cruise. New temps at idle are 191F to 192F at idle and 186F to 190 F at cruise. Live in San Diego CA. Took vehicle to desert at 100 temps offroading Coolant temp stayed at new numbers. Best money spent in long time. Also close loop in 8 minutes or less. With only air injection as the passive edmission, and no variable camshaft timing, landrover had no choice but to run them hot.

I am some what confused by the Pel500110 dropping the temp. I am not a thermo dynamasis but have a basic understanding of coolant issues. Earlier this year I replaced my thermostat on my 2003 disco with a new OEM one. The old one had been in there since new as it was date stamped 03. On putting the new one in then it dropped the temp (according the the ultra gauge EM) from on average 203 on the highway to 195.4. which suggest to me that it was not opening all the way when hot.
Now here's my question if i was to put a Pel500110 in there all it would do would be to open at a cooler temp but not drop my over all temp as the top end heat is top end heat. Surley putting in a better water pump or radiator would lower the over all temp, or am i looking at this the wrong way. I am always looking to be better educated regarding Land Rovers.

So what is the ideal behind the "soft spring" on a thermostat. I replaced mine about 30k ago with the factory thermostat. My temp is 188-204 like clock work. I monitor it with the Scanguage. Mostly 195-200 on the highway. I use water wetter. I guess its time to renew my coolant again. I'm switching to Peak Global Performance.
Oh was the Rim Bros thermostat metal? it looked like it on the website?
