Default Pennnzoil Premium synthetic oil for $1 per quart

I know this offer has been around for a while but seeing as there are few of us here who are broke and a few others who are cheap...

If anyone uses 5W30 or 5W20 oil you can get a 5 quart jug of Pennzoil Premium oil (full synthetic) for $5. Go to walmart and but the jug for $20 and then send in this rebate form for $15 back. I think it is good until the end of November. I have 2 addresses so I got 2 jugs and put one in my wife's name. I don't use the 5W30 in my Disco any longer but I use it in my corolla.

Castrol is doing the same thing with their new Edge motor oil.

Read the attached rebate form it says between August 11th and November 30th. Maybe they extended it.

Everybody is getting desperate to sell motor oil.
Everybody is out of a job so nobody is changing their oil or they are using cheap store brand oil.

Yeah I'm sure even at $20 per 5 quarts Pennzoil Premium is not flying off the shelves. The people I see buy oil a Walmart always grab a jug of valvoline/catrol/pennzoil/supertech (Dino flavored) and a Fram orange oil and air filter. Nothing wrong with that but with the synthetics and semi synthetics at just a few dollars more it is surprising to me. Also the Walmarts around here only carry Fram oil and air filters now. No more K&H or Mobile 1 or anything. I know the higher end Fram filters are decent but still now I have to get my oil at Walmart and the oil and air filters at autozone/napa/advanced. My daughter loves the auto parts store though for whatever reason.

I just stocked up on 3 gallons of Rotella 5W-40 syn and 2 gallons of the PP 5W-30 to get me through the lean times.

I'm surprised at how many people use crappy oil when the benefits of good (usually synthetic) oil are so painfully oblivious. I doubt you spend an extra $20 a year over the crappy stuff too. Then again, look at how many people use regular gas over premium to save a few bucks. My buddy with a Honda Fit is convinced he isn't saving money by using premium even though I showed him with plain old elementary math that he gets an extra 4 mpg using premium and it only costs him an extra $1 per tank.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and for the dollar difference it is not wotrth buying the cheap stuff when you look at the time and money for another engine. However for a deal on synthetic for $1 a quart I am all over that.

Thanks for the lead on the good deal.

My last oil change I found out Walmart stopped carrying the Mobile 1 oil filters. They charged $7.99 and I had to buy it at O'Rielly's for 13.99. They do carry the Fram fuel filter.
Where is everyone getting thier filters?

I get my oil filters either at NAPA or PepBoys.
I use either Purolator or WIX (also know as the NAPA brand).

I can see why people buy the cheap oil, using full syn in my Rover costs me ~$45 with filter, dino oil with filter...~$26.
That $45 is a HUGE hit up front, yes you are saving in the long run but damn man...thats half a paycheck.

Okay, just for fun...
I drive roughly 15,000 miles per year.
Change my oil every 5,000 miles using full syn.
Thats $135 per year in oil changes, that of course does not include grease but we wont split hairs right now.
At 15,000 miles per year and changing the oil every 3,000 miles using dino oil that is 5 oil changes per year.
At $26 per oil change that is $130 per year.
So a guy would save $5 by using dino oil.
Now, it takes 30 min start to finish to change the oil and lube the Rover.
Thats 1.5 hours per year spent under the truck using full syn.
2.5 hours per year using dino oil.
Now, if my time is worth $55 (union wages) per hour it costs me $82.50 per year to change the oil with full syn in labor.
$137.50 using dino oil.
So total cost per year with full syn is...$217.50
Total cost per year with dino oil...$267.5
SO I save $50 per year using full syn and it is better for my engine.

That $20 extra is really pennies when you break it down by day. That means that if you went without your morning cofee from Starbucks 2x a month then you have plenty of money for quality oil and filters. It is funny what we make our priorities and what we are willing to sacrifice. Then those that opt for the coffee over taking care of their engine always gripe how expensive it is to fix when something goes wrong. Rovers are not Hondas and rightly so, I would not own a Honda over my Rover in any case, they are just as much fun to drive IMO.
