Overpriced unless you are doing 15,000-20,000 mile/1 year OCI's (which you can't really do with our engines). Decent oil but overpriced compared long to other drain synthetic oils. If you are looking into Royal Purple just go all the way and go with Redline for the same money and get what is considered the very stoutest oil available.

RP beats redline in oxidation tests, and I would not recommend anything else in the diffs and transfer case. Crankcase is a little overkill, but I get RP for the same $$$ as Mobile 1

I have never heard that.

Here is what it all boils down to.
Do you want to order your oil on line and wait for it to be shipped to you or do you want to go to the store around the corner and buy it whenever you need to?
How much are YOU willing to pay for a quart of oil?
Any of the major brands will do just fine, just pick one and stick with it.
If you wan to use Royal Purple, which is a good oil, then fine, if you want to use Mobil 1, which is a good oil, fine, Valvoline fine, whatever, fine.
OKDGuy is a Royal Purple distributor so he gets his oil at a discounted price, fine.
I prefer to go to Wal-Mart and buy Mobil 1, fine, somebody else prefers to go to Advance Auto and buy Shell Rotella 5w-40, fine.
It's all good guys, it's all good.
It's just oil, stick with a major brand, change it when you are supposed to and dont worry about it.

Use Royal Purple and your engine lasts 250,000 miles, use Mobil 1 and it will last 250k, use Quaker State and it will last 250k, it's all about how much $$$ you want to spend every 5,000 miles.

Life's to short to sweat the small stuff.

FYI:Your truck came from the factory with Castrol in it, and the LR4 comes with Castrol Syntec with a 15,000 mile oil change interval.

There are many different RP and Redline formulations and I'm sure you can find certain tests where one oil will out perform another in a certain area. Some oil companies even use irrelevant grease tests (4 ball) to "prove" their oils are the best. Amsoil is one of the worst offenders though they make some of the best oils.

Bottom line if you are using RP, Amsoil, Redline, Mobile 1, Penzoil Premium, Shell Rotella, Castrol Edge, German Castrol and many others you will be well protected and are probably dumping out perfectly good oil even at 5K.

I was reading around on the bobs forum and just wanted to see what everyone here was using, I'm curious to know what works better in overall cleaning of the engine, I know mobil 1 high mileage and penzoil platinum have detergents to clean the motor but I just wanted personal preferences from everyone who's used either or both. My audi came stock with castrol synthetic and haven't even considered that until now. It may not be a big deal but thatnks for all the input. Keep the info coming.

I buy my Royal Purple at Advance Auto Parts or the AutoZone, depending upon who has the best price and pay almost exactly the same as I would for Mobil One

FWIW, i use rotella 5/40 in winter and 15/40 in summer. that said i just bought 20 quarts of M1-high milage at walmart for short money, 4 bucks a quart.

like others have said just use one of the top five known to be good oils and be done with it.

i will be doing a oil analysis at 5000 miles on the current rotella oil, my guess is it wont be anywhere near used up.

By the way, West marine has 5 gallon buckets of rotella t, for 98.99 that only 3.59 a quart.
