I'm far from an authortity on a chip in a Rover, but back in my hot rodding days I have installed them in vettes and camaros and such......if you do nothing but install a chip.....you will need a stop watch and a dragstrip to determine if you actually did any good. a "chip " only contains the info that the ecu uses to control the fuel and timing curve.... so in theory allowing more fuel in might make you "faster" but with that you'll need more air too, bottom line is that a chip will probably do no good with out engine mods to go along with it........like a cam, high performance valve job, exhaust work, head machining etc.

Let's think for a minute, if one of these vehicles could be souped up with only a chip, IMO Land Rover would have done it long ago.
there's probably a performance shop out there who could do all these mods, but you'll need really deep pockets.

Land Rover has to meet EPA ratings under all condition so they build in wiggle room as do all auto makers.
Chips take it to the limit so if you have more room to "wiggle" the more you get.

The big thing Chips do is add more Toque and that good at low speed going over rocks
or pulling a trailer , most people putting Chips in trucks want that not more speed.

I have not done anything to improve the performance. I am in the process of going through all the maintenance first. Tune up is on the second on the list at this moment, right behind changing the radiator fluid.

So, what plugs and wires will you be using? What octane gas are you using?
When you get ready for some help, shout, but do the tune up first along with some good gas additive like SeaFoam, in the tank.

I will go for the Magnacore 8mm and a decent spark plug. I utilize 92 octane gas and Justice Brothers Treatment for lubrication and fuel additives.

I haven't heard anyone mention JB products in a long time, good product that I thought went out of business.

My father used JB products when he owned two Porsche race cars in the 70s in California. He became a distributor when he moved to Mississippi. I used it until I moved to North Carolina where I could not find it. I now live in Rochester, MN where it is sold at Fleet Farm.
