Disco 2 V8 auto 2003 sticking in first gear when I change auto to 3rd it clicks in then I change back to D.
Going up and down gears makes a thumping/clunk noise especially in traffic.
No JLR dealers for 3 hours also their prices are prohibitive.
Local auto shop suggested checking oil in gearbox only they said I have to remove engine to do this !!!
All suggestions will be appreciated Peter Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Do not use that mechanic! You do not have to remove the engine to check the transmission oil. If you search this forum you’ll find how it’s done and you can easily do it yourself.

You can check fluid on trans, by pulling plug on front of pan, engine must be running while you check fluid level...or you will lose three/four quarts if it's not.

Have you inspected the front driveshaft lately? If cardan joint is bad, it can cause extreme binding...until it let's loose...and smashes a hole in the transmission case.

Have you checked transfer case fluid level, by the sounds of things...noises you're encountering...it sounds like it's dry.
