Default Piston Replacement

Hey everyone,

The wife and I recieve our newly top hatted block from Q&E Machine tomorrow and I have been looking for standard size replacement pistons. The block is bored the 94mm standard size and the pistons I have are all "B" size or oversized. I do not want to bore the block to accept the oversize and use up one rebore even before I get started. I have been looking around for the best prices and it seems England is the best place being almost 50% cheaper. Does anyone know of any places they have used that might be worth checking out on both sides of the pond.

Thanks

So we have decided to go with Rimmer Bros in the UK and they supply three levels of pistons. One being a genuine Land Rover part, another being OE and the last stated as "aftermarket". The OE is supposed to be the same grade as the genuine but without the LR branding. Have any of you used any of these and what grade did you use.

Do you have a 4.0 or a 4.6?

Nope. The 4.6 pistons have to be different to keep the compression ratio the same. 4.0 pistons are a lot cheaper to buy too, so that a plus for you.

It's risky to have a block bored or honed by a machine shop without them having the pistons to measure. I would assume that the top hat liners are semi-finished and need to have a final bore / hone after installation?

I think you need to have the pistons balanced with rods, etc. for smoothest running engine results, right?

Save the time and expense of buying from the UK and go to D&D Fabrications, they will have all you need.
