I had the hood latch let go on the MGB at 50-55 mph it slammed back across the winshield and into the soft top and rode there for about a mile, before I could safely get off the road. Then in was unbolted and I put what i could of the hood in the boot and drove a good distance with the boot lid smacking into it. It weathered the incident well. I'll post a pic of the hood after attempting to straighten it.

It seems I posted just a little too late. I put a seriously gnarly pin stripe down the side today, I'm not even sure if I'll be able to clay bar and black box wax it out.

Someone mentioned a wrap, I thought about it but felt it wasn't worth the time. I also couldn't do that myself.

And OffroadFrance, you're correct. Gloss black is the absolute hardest color to spray on anything. Whenever I do it I plan to get the dipyourcar.com kit with spray gun, so that should make it easier atleast.

I did have my wheels dipped for a while, seemed to hold up well. I just kinda got tired of it and removed it. Might try it again with gloss instead of flat this time.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Does DMV require any changes in regard to color when you do this?

depends upon the state but I would say yes, if it list the color of your vehicle on the registration

Indiana which is where my cars are registered (home of record for military) doesn't care. Like Drowssap said check with your state DMV to find out their policy

Is that your 9-5 wagon? Is it an aero?

I absolutely love 9-5 wagons. And you are into MG's? Did we just become best friends

It is a 9-5 wagon and it's a Gary Fischer edition. It will soon be sold to many cars and its that or a Rover that has to go lol.

I've had the MGB since I was 16 my dad bought it new. I intend to use it as my coffin.

Huh, you know I've never thought about it. I'd say probably, but I've never actually heard of anyone going to the DMV to change it. I guess I wouldn't since I'd stick with black which it already is, but if you went to a different color then I'd call the sheriff's department and ask (simply because they're easier to quickly get a hold of than the DMV).

Absogoddamnlutely. Your car is literally a different color, and it's considered registration fraud at least in VT. My friend has been pulled over twice for the various colors he dips his car.

Most cops in our state have plate scanners, so all they need to do is look at the color and the registration pops up as incorrect.

It only costs around $15-25 to change the color on the registration
