There's no record of that in the carfax while "owner states having problems with window" is as well as every other service the car had.

The car was very obviously babied and while the sealant looks to be excessive might it not be original? Maybe the after lunch shift?

Thanks

Eric
It doesn't look factory, and it does appear to be newer, but who knows. CarFax would not likely show a replaced part like that anyways, unless it was due to an accident, or the Dealership did it, and even then ONLY if the body shop, or dealership reported it. In California, an accident is supposed to be reported if it cost $500 or more to fix. MANY don't get reported because people fix them themselves, or have a friend do it.

CarFax is also used by dealers to convince buyers their car does not have any damage, when in fact, many dealers KNOW they do. CarFax only shows items that have been reported. Repairs done by smaller shops that don't report, or body shops that don't report, or are not reputable do not get shown.

I personally know of a couple shops that do repairs on their vehicles and don't report them. They then happily post a CarFax in the window and claim the vehicle has never been fixed. It happens a LOT, unfortunately.

CarFax is still a decent resource, but never fully trust it. Always get a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable shop if you are wanting to be sure.

I've been telling people for YEARS to watch out for the CarFax hype. Just last night, on our local news, a dealership was caught selling cars with clean CarFax's knowing very well that the cars had been repaired, and sometimes repaired a LOT with Frame Damage left behind. Just be aware when buying.

This isn't the article, but it's similar: http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2011/...ied-used-cars/

Hi, looking at the diff unit it certainly looks newish. LR would never waste all that gasket goo on the original diff and it looks fresh(ish). My guess it's a new diff.

The truck looks very well kept and clean although you are worried about the oil and crud underneath it's normal on most D2's.

When I bought my truck it had oil all over the place. THe problem ended up being the crank seal. It was leaking and since it's so close to the fan it sprayed oil all over the bottom end. THe fix was cheap and easy. I jusy had it all done when they did my head gasket job...because you obviously know that'll be coming sooner or later right?

Most largish engines with alloy heads distort and let go sooner or later. I've a TD5 which hasn't gone yet at 120K but my Pajero 2 overheated and the gasket blew out and cracked the head. The RRS heads distorted on my gas powered engine and leaked. Had the heads skimmed a new performance head gaskets never any trouble ever since. The only one that was never a problem was my D2 V8 4.0L but the mileage was still low when I sold it.

I never use LR head gaskets I always get mine via a pal here.......far better for lasting the distance. Raceline
