PO171, PO174
Hi to All...new here and new to LR's...unfortunately i just bought a bad one. Sold on ebay as mechanically perfect, it is not!. (3 warning lamps removed inc check engine)
First i had a P1172 and P1175. After reading here, tried cleaning the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner...didn't do anything, replaced the MAF.
1172 & 1175 codes disapeared then had a bank A bank B rich code, forget which numbers.
checked air filter and replaced it with a new cold air style filter i had laying around.
Rich codes disapeared to be replaced with P0171 & PO174 (lean codes again?)
Will these PO codes prevent the sensors from being ready for inspection?...Code reader says MIL should be off (thats the first time its said that since i owned the car)
I've only done a few miles as i have no inspection and can only drive back roads after dark. Will this be a problem for the drive cycles?
Gotta figure this out...had a rental car for 3 weeks now OUCH!!!!

thanks for the replys
I have replaced the filter this morning with a regular stock purolator...it is the ONLY brand in stock!.
i have not erased the 171 and 174 codes as i'm trying to complete the drive cycles for inspection.
The MIL is off even with these codes, do i assume correct that these codes will not interfere with the inspection?
Will these codes clear automatically if the new filter rectifies the lean problem? or will i have to manually reset the MIL?.
The cold air setup was just a cone washable (K&N style) banjo clipped to the MAF

ebay did nothing, they don't care, and thats the 2nd lemon in 2 months, Yes...i left scathing feedback. But don't y'all worry. i have a secret plan!.
anyway..back to subject.
had already been over the vehicle with a fine toothcomb, one dealer suggested that throttle body was leaking, well after it was replaced, no difference.
Now i have had a K&N cold air intake on my F150 for the last 5 yrs...no MAF problems.
So now the LR has the stock filter, i cleared the codes, took it for a few miles and codes have not yet returned.
I am now waiting for the evap and catalyst sensors to be "ready" for the inspection...looking good so far!
Will continue driving after dark! and repost
(other sensor lights ripped out include traction control and downhill descent)

Only run a stock paper air filter in a Land Rover. K&N air filters and cone style cold air intake's will destroy the MAF, I dont know why, but they do.
Sorry that you got burned on e-bay.
The ABS, Hill Desent and Traction Control are the "three amigo's", do a search on here and you will find what that is about.
