Mine had a similar issue on my 03. It ended up being the transfer case.

 

What were the symptoms?

 

Started as some minor squealing which let me to believe it might be the pulleys, tensioner, or belt. I replaced all that. Still chirped. The chirping was only under accelleration. Then after maybe 100 miles it started making a light flapping noise like an exhaust leak. I did my brakes about 3 months ago and also checked the wheel hubs. Then I was told it was a possible drive shaft issue, diff issue, or maybe a carrier bearing. So I had it towed to my local landy shop ( CARRS4X4 ) and Abran informed me it was the tcase. He is a very knowledgeable D2 mechanic and shop owner. So now Im gonna hunt down a 04 tcase and cdl linkage.

Its in the shop now. Gotta hunt down the 04 tcase. Mine did not chirp in park. only under accelleration

 

I bet it’s the flex plate. Same symptoms in our Tacoma. It was cracked and mirrored all these symptoms.

Really? I just don't see how this would be the cause of that noise. Not saying your HG isn't bad, just that correlation isn't necessarily causation.
