Possible new owner here, need some advice!
Hi Im Matt. Ive never owned a LR but ive always wanted a Discovery II ever since I drove one when I worked at a carwash in high school lol. I fell in love with a 2001 Discovery II and it had a beautiful sage green color with tan interior. I was browsing the net to see what they were going for these days to see if I could afford one yet lol and I found one. Owner says it has a slight oil leak but he doesnt know where from and it also needs a water pump gasket. It has a cracked front bumper and missing sprayer nozzles and the fuel door is of kilter a bit and the front passenger window motor is out. I was wondering if the price was too good to be true or not. He wants 1800 bucks for it. Does this sound like a bad idea? Are there any major issues I should watch for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

common problems are overheating and a front drive shaft that if not upgraded will tear apart and kill transmission. The DIY upgrade is uner $200. You can't trust the heat gauge to see if you have a problem, you need a scanner. If the engine has been run hot, it can make a cylinder liner start slipping, this is usually a tick that starts once the truck is warmed up. Some owners remove or paint over various warning lights. You would be wise to arrange for a pre-purchase inspection by an indy mechanic. The price seems low to me, I paid almost that for a 97 D1 that needed work.

Take your time, look for one with good service records. Pay for good PPI from a shop that knows these vehicles. Do not get the PPI from the shop that works that vehicle. Fun cars, but can empty your wallet fast if you get a bad one!
