Good move on the STI wires. I don't understand why you'd buy the Bosch iridium plugs. Whatever. The plugs in the truck are the best choice, in my experience. The RC11 PYP B4s are great. That's just another designation for the 7070s. I don't know why Champion part numbers are so convoluted. Good luck. The problem was most likely the aged wires.

I've replaced wires/plugs and did the valve cover gaskets at the same time.

Still have the P0308 code cropping up and I'm at a loss as to what to check next.

I pulled plugs and #8, 6, 4, 2 all look identical so this does not appear to be a head gasket issue - also no loss of coolant or oil/water issues.

Any clues as to next test/diagnostic I should try?

I’d have replaced the coil packs while I was at it with spark plug wires & plugs.

I’ve worked on my fair share of D2/P38’s & now whenever someone ask me to do the spark plug wires & spark plugs I also tell them to replace the coil packs while I have it all apart for the best performance, and the longest lasting setup before tearing it all apart again.
