Default Power source under the dash

Where's the best place to tap into a keyed power supply under the driver's side dash on an '04 Disco? I'm hooking up a CB and am hoping someone can give me a good shortcut answer so I don't have to meter it our or worry about overloading a circuit.

Thanks!

I think you can tap the brown ignition wire which is POWER... I did to power my CDL shifter...

I put the meter on it and that wire has power even when the key is out of the ignition. I was hoping to find keyed power to access so I wouldn't have to worry about accidentally leaving it on and killing the battery.

Any suggestions? I'm going to start playing with the meter and testing wires...

Okay... I metered out all the wires on that plug and it goes like this:

BROWN - Constant power
GREEN - Power only when key is all the way "ON"
YELLOW - Power only when key is all the way "ON"
RED/WHITE - No power
GREEN/WHITE - Power with key in "ACCESSORY" and "ON"

I'm tapping the GREEN/WHITE wire.

Atay out from under the dash, run a wire to one of the front fuses in the engine compartment, you are just asking for problems under the dash.

Yes, I was apprehensive about tapping wires under the dash, but there's really no reason it should be a problem. I know, I know... Rovers do lots of things that defy logic! LOL

I used a T-Tap quick slide connector on the GREEN/WHITE wire and plugged into it. Fired it up and took it for a spin, everything's as it should be! A nice clean install, major PITA but the end result was worth the effort.

Now all I need is to tune the antenna, I'll have to buy or borrow an SWR meter to finish up.

Just a FYI from a old truck driver...CB's do NOT like being left on and then having the power surge from the ignition, they like to have power all the time and you use the on/off switch that is on the radio.
Believe me it will fry your radio, not today, not tommorrow, but it will.

Hmmm. Well, as long as it's turned off when the truck is started it should be fine, right?

Yes, as long as it is off before you switch on the main power you should be good.
In my truck my radio was hooked live all the time, all over the road trucks and most day cabs have pos and neg power leads sticking out of the dash, using "C" ends on the power leads makes for a quick and easy hook up for your radio, but it is always live so you need to turn your radio on and off.
A buddy of mine kept blowing his radio up because he hard wired it to the ignition so that he could leave the radio power switch alone.
When he bought his third radio he asked the radio guy to install it and he said wait a minute...you cant do this.
That radio lasted him 5 years before I left the company.
