Default Power steering issue?!

Hi guys, yesterday I went out to my 2000 disco with 85000 miles and when I was backing out of the driveway I noticed it was really hard to turn the wheel. So on my way to work it was like every once in awhile the power steering would shut down and sometimes it would work? Any ideas what's going on? And how hard/expensive it is going to be to fix?? Thanks again!

Sounds like you are low on fluid.
Check the fluid level, top off with power steering fluid then look for leaks.

A used pump is pretty cheap, they usually fail at the center gasket. Though if you lost all your fluid that fast it is probably something else, hose or something. Do not drive without fluid or you will burn out your pump.

You could try doing a flush but it sounds like it has been allowed to run too long on burned fluid, which is a known killer of our pumps.

I can tell you first hand they are very easy to replace. If you have rave cd it took me about an hour in my driveway. I got a rebuilt from roversnorth for 260. Hopefully you just need some fluid.

Alright so I checked the fluid and its good on both the ACE side and the pump side. So does this mean the pump is shot? How hard is this to replace? Thanks again

You can get a used pump from autosports unlimited for $70 shipped. I got mine from there and it works great.
