Default Power steering pump: What does it look like the cause of death was?

This boy popped out the other day. Thankfully I was only a mile from home, so just slowly limped home without power steering. What the heck causes this?

Wow, looks like the shaft is coming out of the bearings, does the shaft wiggle?

BTW, never seen that before

Yep. Crazy isn’t it? It started walking out and shredded a belt. I bought a new belt, pushed the shaft back in, and that’s how I limped home. By the time I got home, the shaft already pushed out one rib on the new belt.

It’s not wobbly at all.
