One of the best upgrades I did for my '01 Disco was adding the Center Differential Lock. Most '01's have the fitting on the transfer case. There are some good You-Tube vids on how to install it. Tedious but not complicated. I was out in Moab area (Maze District in Canyonlands) last year and having the CDL made a big difference going over some the difficult terrain out there.

 

Can confirm this, it makes a big a difference.

 

IMO winter is the best time but I'm biased. Don't like crowds or the heat lol. CDL and armor and make sure the cooling system is good to go and have fun.

 

All my trips have been before Easter or late in the year. The crowds can get crazy and it's nice to not worry about everyone else. That way you can run to all the touristy and well know places and actually have fun.

Bring tools, parts, first aid stuff, recovery stuff, and cash. And a boonie cap because you'll look like you're lost before you get lost and you'll keep the sun off your head.
