Looking to purchase 2001 D2 se7, need advice.
Hey everyone,
I have to say this forum is great and has helped me the past couple of days in my researching of a possible purchase of a 2001 D2 SE7.
This D2 has 101k and is a one owner. The owner kept regular maintenance on it and kept the records. I've never owned a land rover and of course I've read reviews and asked a couple people I know that have had landrovers. They are all mixed reviews. I am pretty mechanically inclined. I currently own a 1993 full size Chevy Blazer that I love, but it's just getting old and I would like to get something else.
I test drove the vehicle and it rides great. I didn't notice any of the signs of warning that where mentioned here on the forum. Fluids were fine, the interior is in excellent condition. I plan on using it as my daily driver and to use it for some of road and trail riding.
Originally the owner wanted 5200 and I talked him down to 4700.
Let me know what you think, and thank you in advance,
Nathan

Take a scanner and check for engine codes (check engine light can be non-functional) and coolant temp, don't have faith in temp guage. Will need front driveshaft rebuilt or replaced, oem does not have enough grease fittings and will split and damage transmission. An indy mechanic inspection would be better, and he could also check the oil pressure with a manual gauge test.
Everything Savannah said should let you know what you need to. I used to own a 96 Yukon GT (2 door). I actually think the rover is smaller than that thing, especially width wise. The only thing I miss about it is the vortec engine. Since you are mechanically inclined you will love the rover. It's sort of hobby/project vehicle that could always use something, but isn't necessarily urgent. Good luck and welcome.
