OK, so I finally undertook my headliner removal/sun roof repair project- it's going well but makes me wonder: Is there any way to prevent the sunroof drains from clogging? My disco spends its life outdoors (parked under pine trees no less) and I'm worried about solving the problem only to get water ingress again once the drains become blocked. Is there an easily accessible way to clear them out or blow them out?
no way to easily clean them out. the tube ends half way down the A pillar. The other end is connected to the tray. You could put a small screen over the tray collector at tube inlet.....Best bet...keep the tray clean. Don't open the sunroof if a bunch of stuff is on it.
Thanks for the input, honestly, I never even open my sunroofs but perhaps I will if that can help suck some debris out of them. I have a roof top tent over the rear one so that one isn't as much of a concern.
The design of the rear drain tubes is flawed. After replacing the drain corners I tested if everything is sealed and how well they drain. The fronts drained very well, but not the rears. The tubes weren't clogged. I could easily suck out the water out at the other end and make them drain. Water gets trapped in the tubes, because they don't go straight down, but bent upwards in order to make them go through the vertical hole in the body above the tail lights. It leads to standing water in the drain corners. Time to fix that flaw after 17 years. Two 3/8" nylon fittings do the trick.
