...ProblemS of the day.. Scan Gauge, Overheating, E-fans dead
Ok..
Scan gauge reads 200-1000MPG on my vehicle. But works fine on others.
Overheated today when offroading.
Loosing coolant.
Transmission temperature light will not go off.
E-fans probably never have worked since I owned the vehicle.. Replaced one.

Usually the sending unit is bad on the tranny temp light. Probably caused by the overheat. Get a new one.
YOur evap fans should come on when you turn on your a/c. Not just an overheat situation...
Find your coolant leak!

couldnt of said it better myself!
- Check your Thermostat - mine was stuck closed
- Check your thermo fan clutch - the fan should make a lot of noise when the engine is hot. (like when you are stationary in traffic on a hot day!)
The thermo clutch was hard to trouble shoot at the time but with the new clutch installed the fan really roars when it gets hot. - now I know it is working!

E-fans will not cause overheating if your cooling system is running 100%...i had mine not working for over 2 years without overheating and i live in florida. i have overheated with the fans working so there you go... I think its a little ore deeper than your fans...most likely the LR curse...
good luck, chris

As for the exception mentioned, I haven't seem a D1 with a cooling system at 100% since they quit making them.
Replace the fans, ASAP.
Here again when it comes to the tranny, is the light always on or does it come one shortly after driving a couple miles?
I will add that I agree with Mike. My cooling system does not have any leaks, but probably isn't 100% because I have never changed the radiator. I will say that is traffic and only one fan with the a/c on, the temp would climb a little. Even one fan out will amke a huge difference. I replaced one bad fan (actually 2, the other was a little weak) and I can hang meat in the Disco when it is 100 out.
ok guys I have a question (in regards to this post) I just pulled out the one condensor fan that was not working, I don't have a replacement yet but will be getting one soon. my thought was this: because the fan is not working all it is doing is restricting air flow, so by removing it I figure I was helping the situation. Is my thinking correct or did I make a mistake? also has anyone ever been successful at removing these fans from the front (through the grill opening) or was I supposed to remove the condenser first? I had to do alot of work to remove it the way I did but I would like to believe the other way would have been more work!
I would also like to point out that with one fan out my A/C is ok (freon level is good) but only in the front seats (and that could be better), the front and back A/C on together kills them both, can't wait to see if it improves with a new fan!

I removed mine from the front. Having the grill guard in the way made it a challenge. I left the grill off while I had the fan out and was looking for a replacement. It may have helped a little, but the a/c was still warm. I can tall you that I have an icebox now. Both fans replaced.
