Programming new key / re-program old key?
Hey guys,
I only have one fob. I have two other plain keys, but would like to have two fobs. My question is, if I get a new key, will both keys have to programmed? I have Hawkeye and will program the key myself. I don't think I have the necessary bar-code of the original fob to re-program it. Can I simply program the new key to work? Or do both keys have to be programmed with the barcode?

Both keys must be available. You don't need barcodes of the existing keys. When programming with hawkeye it will ask you to press a button on each of your keys. That way it can find an empty slot to put the new code in.
Awesome. That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks Jafir
Also, you CAN use a used key, but you have to get the barcode. Someone recently posted a "worksheet" that might generate the numbers, but it hasn't been fully vetted for every possible situation. Some of the land rover techs that post to this forum have an excel spreadsheet that can create the barcodes for you too.
I got a used key from someone on disco web, with a new blade, for about $50. If you look on ebay you can probably find a used remote for less than $50, and you can get a new case and blade for about $10.

Are you available to program keys for others? What would you charge if I came to you? I'm just over the hill from you, I believe.
