Default Is this prop shaft salvagable?

2001 Land Rover Discovery II Driveshaft

Hard to tell the actual shape it is in, but then again I wouldn't know what to look for. Everything but the U-Joints "look" ok. Do you think that this could be rebuilt? I would love to be able to keep my truck on the road while getting the drive shaft rebuilt, then have one to resell.

Thanks gents, I know you'll come through!

Is the drive shaft bent, is the area around either of the u-joints damaged, if not then it can be rebuilt.
What are you going to do, rebuild, buy a rebuilt or new one?
If buying a replacement, be careful where you buy it, there are a lot of knock offs for sale on line that were made in China.

Thank you Mike!

I'm waiting to hear back from the seller about the actual condition. My plan would be to rebuild this one, swap it in for my current one, have that one rebuilt and sell it, or keep it as a spare.

The parts on it are worth what they are asking and I am sure you can get it for $15 if you really wanted to. It looks as though the CV end is pretty messed up but that can be a new part when rebuilt. As long as the shaft looks straight I would say it would be good to go, just make sire to get it balanced if you are doing the rebuilding.

Just my 2 cents. Is it really worth risking it? You can get a brand new shaft for $335, if the prop shaft fails your looking at a couple grand, I guess I don't think it is worth trying to salvage a questionable prop shaft.

The photos are sort of small so hard to tell fore sure, but it looks like the center yoke is damaged. By time you pay a shop to rebuild it, plus buy a new center yoke (assuming they can find one), you'll likely have spent as much as a Tom Woods or Great Basin propshaft.

Good points, the risk vs. reward. Thanks guys, I think I'll just let this one pass.
