Default Purchased new driveshaft, few questions.

I purchase the British Parts of Utah rebuilt driveshaft. I understand the fittings at the u-joints. I pumped some new grease in there even though it seems packed full of grease.

My questions are:
  • How do I know I have greased the slip shaft part? I see a nipple and pumped a few pumps of grease in there but I did not see any come out. How do I know its “full”?
  • I noticed there was a female looking fitting (flat against the shaft) instead of a nipple and it seemed like there is a different color (brown instead of red). This is where the double u-joint part of the drive shaft comes together. Like a ball and socket type thing. See picture below.

As always, thanks. I am always learning new things here!

I am talking about the flat gold one, not the silver nipple with red grease.

thats for greasing the center ball. Use a needle attachment for your grease gun

Yep, what the person above said is correct. It is a grease fitting, but a different attachment than the others is needed to grease it. The center ball grease point is a very positive thing and a big plus on upgraded shafts. If you keep that driveshaft greased properly it should last you a lifetime.

Thanks, that makes sense. I will see if my new grease gun came with a needle fitting.

Also, when greasing the nipple on the shaft part (not the u-joint) will grease come out of anywhere when it is full?

If you put enough grease in there I'm sure it will eventually come out where the shaft spline meets in the middle. I believe there is a seal there that you will start to see bulge. I'll crawl under my truck in a bit and double check and snap a pic if possible.

I wouldn't over pack it with grease. I would give it a good 10 pumps and drive it so the grease gets slung everywhere. From then on grease it every few months or after deep water, and just a pump or 2 like you would the others at that point. Just my way of doing it, not sure if it's right or wrong
