Purchasing a slightly mistreated Discovery II
I am going to purchase a Discovery ii in the next couple of weeks and had one more question. I am considering the option of buying one that appears to be in good shape (a mechanic will check it out first) at the auction (friend who is a car dealer) for a really good price and then dumping the money into it to really fix it up and make sure it is running good. Cost of doing this will be about the same as buying one from an individual with service records and where I could get a pre purchase inspection at a land rover shop.
My question is if you buy one that has been slightly mistreated but put the money, maintenance and care in it to bring it back to life will it always have the problems associated with an earlier owner mistreating it?
Thanks

It all depends on how it was mistreated, dings and scratches, stained seats, cosmetic stuff no big deal.
But if the engine was abused, oil never changed, they used regular gas instead of premium, etc. you could be worse off.
However, buying one like that could save you a ton of money because you can fix what you think is important.
If it runs well at auction and it speaks to you go for it.
