im in MA, just south of Boston. I have to be honest, people speak of these prices that I never seem to see. Maybe Im looking in the wrong places but you will not find a 03 with less than 50k for 8,000 in my area (or at least I have'nt in the 3mths I have been looking). Am I missing something?

Something to keep in mind as we move towards the summer gas price increase. If you followed the prices of 'thirsty' vehicles last June-August, they were dropping like a rock. If its convenient to wait, then I'd highly suggest doing so. That being said, that price seems at least a couple thousand too high. Far too many folks out there are desperate to unload vehicles. It's an obvious buyers market, so if you're patient then a great deal WILL show up.

Here is what you do, go to www.nada.com, www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com, enter this truck into all three, look up trade in, private party resale and dealer re-sale pricing on all three sites and then take the average price for all three pricings and then start your haggling, start with the trade in value, set your limit, Edmunds.com will tell you what they are selling for in your area.
They call it "real world pricing"
They cannot stop you from having it inspected by another dealer/shop, if they wont let you then walk as that is a sure sign of trouble.
A test drive should last no less than 1 hour, if they set the time limit then walk.
That price is high, I think $8,000 is more realistic, no more than $9k, plus tax.
If you buy from a LR dealer you are paying for the inspection and the cost of bring the truck up to current specs.
If it is certified that is, that is the key, certified LR used car.

This one is a perfect example of watching a price drop like a rock as the owner becomes ever more desperate to unload. Started @ $8700, and is now all the way down to $7400 and dropping.

Hello Seamus... price is too much and buying a vehicle thru a dealer that isnt the vehicle's specific dealership isnt the place to do business with. They cant certify it cuz theyre not a LR dealer... you may do pretty good to go with maybe a private sale, gotta be a lot of em around there in Boston (go Red Sox!)
anyway just shop around maybe youll get a better deal else where

thanks for taking the time to link some cars for me...i checked em all out.
the first one i actually have already driven, but there arent any records and it falls within the suspect oil pump vin range...
but also none of the ones you sent had mileage even close to the 48k one that I am looking at, yes they are cheaper but they have been driven quite a bit more...i still believe its rare in my neck of the woods to find a 03-04 for under 10k w less than 50k miles....
im going to look at another tomorrow at a LR dealership...its an 02 SE Black with a brand new engine, due to a cylinder fail...they are asking 9,9000 and it has 58k miles on it...

DO NOT let the miles scare you, these engines will last 300,000 miles.
Head gaskets blow around 80,000 so I would advise getting one with more than 90,000 miles on it.
The transmission is bullet proof and will last as long as the engine.
Same thing with the transfer case and axles.
Save your money and buy a lesser priced truck, so what if it has more miles on it.
Did you go to edmunds.com?

If they dont show the instrument panel in the pics you have to ask why.
