I have a harbor freight engine stand that I will attach to my headless discovery engine once I manage to get it out. Has anyone done this before? The two longest bolts might work to attach the engine stand to it, but I'm not sure if they are long enough. There would be about 1/2 inch of thread after I put it in the cylindrical black tube. What bolt size are the engine-transmission bolts, and how long of a bolt would I need?
You're going to need a washer or two on each of those. Might as well go buy longer right now and not sweat it. !/2 inch would be enough, but you won't have that with washers. Measure the depth of the wholes and plan on going most of the way in since you are buying new anyway.
You will need longer bolts. You will need a washer under the head and I think I needed a few between the stand and block to clear the crank from hitting the bolts holding the engine stand together.
I got 4 3/8-16 grade 8 bolts that were 4 inches long from ace hardware. NAPA has them too. On the top two bolts, I used 4 washers for each bolt, two stacked under the nut head, and two between the engine and stand. Without the washers, these bolts would bottom out and be loose. On the bottom two bolts I only used one washer on each end of the bolts since they just stuck through the engine.
