I’ve done it several times and used an infared thermometer and it’s been darn close. Not exactly like 180F but the main thing is to test if it opens/closes.
Mis-marked thermostats especially el cheapo’s are out there!
Looks like mine opens somewhere between 180-190*. Seems to open kind of slowly.
Well I’ve confirmed with Lucky8 the thermostat I was sent wasn’t a britpart, but a 180F version from another Vendor. I’m returning it for a refund & I so sick of this delay & 30.00 of coolant ruined I’m tossing a darn local purchase 180F motorad from Autozone.....
So if you want the Britpart 180F I’ve had so much luck with you’ll have to use another LR parts dealer.
So to give an update I did purchase and install the thermostat that was in the picture for the first post from amazon , it came with zero markings on it and was all black . My original temps with the oem thermo was reaching 215-217 in traffic and when driving would stay around 205. After test driving with this new one my driving temps were around 188-190 and my sitting in traffic temp is now 195.8 exactly. I couldn’t be happier with , test done with the same temp and weather as the first test , so I went from 215 to 195z

i bought this as well from lucky 8. Mine was bad. I shipped it back and told them
I didn’t pay extra for a tracking number and lucky 8 claims they never received it
ok oh well I can’t prove it but they will never get my business again after several calls to them item was never returned to me so I’m sure they received had all proper I’d on box
The el cheapo I got from Lucky8 vs their advertised Britpart thermostat on Ebay is 100% confirmed total trash! I have solved the trash talking surrounding the Britpart 180F thermostat that people "thought" they were getting. I've ordered a lot of those Britpart 180F thermostats and they come in a brown box with a blue/white Britpart sticker and some even had a Defender on the box. I then ordered about 8 months ago a 12.00 el cheapo off of Ebay that was listed as 180F as an experiment. I tested it out and I confirmed it is not a 180F but more like a 195F thermostat so I tossed it into my parts bin as a 195F thermostat.
There were a lot of post regarding the Britpart 180F thermostat this past summer and we all thought they were getting the Britpart thermostat which is marked as a 78C inside and it doesn't have the Freelander mounting tab on the side of the case. Well I ordered what was advertised as a Britpart 180F thermostat, and what I received without a shadow of doubt was the POS 12.00 el cheapo I'd purchased off of Ebay 8 months earlier. I even went to my shop and compared them side by side/inside and out. THIS IS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE complained!! It's a cheap POS that does not open at 180F!!!
When I contacted Lucky8 I was just told they had multiple misc vendor parts and I was given a shipping label to return it (will be getting a tracking #). I'm just upset I wasted 30.00 in coolant, my time, and I bought a part advertised as a Britpart, but I received whatever they tossed into a bag & shipped.
I will be getting my $$ back no doubt. I really needed to get this 02 Westminster running cool, so I said screw it, went to AutoZone paid 33.00 for a Motorad 180F thermostat, more coolant, some 5/16 line to properly bypass the TBH, and I slapped it all together. It now sits at idle with the AC on full blast for 45m to an hour at 200F to maybe 204F. That certainly beats the 209-220F idle temps I got with the Lucky8 el cheapo after about 5-10min of running at idle.
So if you want the 30-40 Britpart 180F thermostat that I've had such excellent results with I highly recommend you try another vendor.
