Default Question about replacing a window switch in the center console

Per the RAV (see below), replacing a window switch in the center console first requires removing the console switch cover.

As the RAV diagram provides no other information does that cover -- in my case, plastic wood grain (2004 HSE) -- does it simply pop out using a plastic body panel pry tool?

If so, any advice on where to start prying: at the corners, top-bottom, etc.?

I’ve had mine out a couple of times. IIRC it just pulls straight out. Maybe have someone else confirm this before you trust me and break something though.

it does just pop straight out. there are 4 "pins" if I remember correctly. work your way around and see where you get some nice even pressure.

It’s actually real wood veneer and much better than the fragile plastic part on the non HSE. However you will need to remove the shifter base as well. The wood is just double sided taped to the center console and pulls right up.

Proceed VERY carefully. The four plastic pins are very fragile and very easy to break.

The shifter bezel just lifts up.

I see that unlike the base D2, the HSE console wood trim is one piece. Is it really taped down, i.e., no clips holding it in place?\?

Does that mean I have to pull up the shifter and tranfer case bezels and remove the cup holders?

RAVE page 76-3-6 just says "Models with veneer trim: Release veneered console cover and remove cigar lighter element. Disconnect multiplugs from switch pack and remove veneered console cover." It doesn't say how you "release [the] veneered console cover."
The numbering on the illustrations appears to be off by one.

Hold on, there seems to be some confusion here.

Do you have a model with the entire 'ski ramp' in wood veneer? Does it start near the opening of the center cubby and continue past the shifters, ending near the cigar lighter?

Or is it the rectangle as portrayed by part #1 in the original illustration?

If it is just a rectangle as part #1 is portrayed, just pull it straight out. As described there are 4 pins that are received by plastic/rubber female fittings. Then four screws to remove the part held in by the #2 screws in the illustration.

Don't overtighten those screws.
