Default Question regarding shift solenoid/actuator??

Hi Guys,

I recently picked up a 04 Disco ii that was in rough shape and I am in the process of fixing it up and have a question. How is the shifter actuator/solenoid supposed to be connected to the shifting unit? The one in mine is pretty loose and sometimes requires the brake pedal to be pressed to shift out of park and sometimes it just scoots to the side and does not do its job (see picture). Is mine broken or is a piece missing?? I looked online and they all look like mine, but I do not see a bracket of way of holding it in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. This forum has been a great source while working on this project. Thanks for all the valuable information.

I don't see a cable attached to the connector on the solenoid in the picture. For that matter, I don't even see the cable.
