Default questions about installing new Terra Firma shocks-2" lift

Hello everyone,

It's been a long time since I've worked on a Disco II suspension. My rig has 2" spacers with stock springs.

The shocks that the previous owner put on Rancho 9000's are destroyed, rig is literally rebounding multiple times over any bump/rounding corners! = bouncy house.

I got new Terra Firma's for it for $35 apiece (long story, but Rover shop had a guy pay for half, then rolled his Rover), so I got a great price!

QUESTION: I've watched the Rover's North 2" lift kit install video (
), BUT, I am wondering:

Should i remove the stock shock towers just to replace front shocks? (sorry if this is a stupid question).

Trying to get the replacement done quickly!

Also, in the video, they remove the front yoke and upper sway bar mounts: are these both neccessary for just placing shocks?

Thanks a ton in advance.-CJ

You can install the shocks with the shock tower off or on, I prefer off.
As for the p;d coils and spacers. you should never run spacers on your ols warn out springs, your top heavy vehicle becomes more unstable when wheeling.

We only removed the shock towers in that video to replace them with the competition shock towers. You definitely don't need to remove them, makes it a lot quicker!

When I did my springs and shocks. I did remove the towers, they are only held in with 4 bolts. If you don't remove the shock towers, you may not be enough room to get the shock bolt out.

I have ACE and did not have to disconnect the endlink or actuator.

Lucky8 has a video on it also.

Wreckdiver also has a post in his blog about his install - The Disco: Suspension – Part One | Montana Overland

the bolt marriage to the isolator, atop the spring (the 4 bolts) has a tendency to rust and weaken. be prepared to snap one if you remove and re-install the turret. not a definite, but i have snapped a few.

Default re: terra lift install-popping sound

I got the front shock towers and shocks, out, replaced, etc with no issues.

The rear shocks were another story. removal was easy, even though the rear shocks were toast, rusty, old, etc.

the new Terra shocks (RNA 128) had wider shock "heads/ends" than the previous set. required widening the mounting locations top and bottom.

We got that done.

Now, when ever i go over a decent size bump in the road, there's a popping sound from left rear.

I checked bolts; they are tight.

Since the lift is a 2 inch spacer under the spring, could it have something to do with that?

trying to figure out what would make it pop!

Thx CJ

If they are not located correctly in the upper spring seat you can have that problem. Check to make sure your springs are fully seated.

Thanks Zach, I will check that and reply back. BTW, the Terra Firma shocks ride a million times better than the Rancho 9000s the previous owner had installed.
