Default Quick CDL install question

Hey everyone,
I'm in the middle of installing my CDL. Everything has come out nice and clean... though the two bolts on top of the diff were LOCKED tight!

Anyway, I attached the CDL cable plate to the diff and attached the cable to the CDL nipple. The cable should be mounted so that the cable goes to the front right? This the way I attached it so that to engage the CDL the cable will actuate the spigot to the right. Is this correct?

I cranked the engine over and engaged the CDL via the shifter cable, but no light on the dash. Is the diff lock light supposed to come on when you first crank the engine? Trying to figure out if the light has been tampered with or if I'm just not engaging it right.

Thanks

Ok. This is really emberassing. I forgot that I had to be in neutral! Just pulled the little shifter cable to get it in neutral, engaged the CDL, and voila... the light comes on and shows it is engaged properly.

Please don't mock my o so idiotic mistake! haha

Ok. Well it worked the first time. Now when I engage it, no light. Also cannot shift from hi to lo. How is the solenoid on the t-case activated to allow the shift from hi to lo?

So, now that it is hooked up, do you know that you now have the ability to turn off the ETC, ABS and hill Decent if you want to while wheeling for better traction.

Hey Mike, I did not that was possible!

Is there any reason that it will not shift into hi-lo anymore?

Also, the CDL engage light seems very sporadic. Sometimes when I engage it, it comes on, sometimes it does not.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

CDL engagement sometimes takes a few feet for the dogs to line up.

On H-L engagement, I find that I have to be rolling in N in order to shift from H-L and vice versa. If you find yourself stuck with the transfer case in neutral at a standstill (sucks when it happens), try shifting to D and back to N, and then try to select your range again.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Everything works how it should! I was trying to shift hi-lo without the plate and shifter actually installed and apparently you just can't get enough leverage that way. Once I got the plate back in place and the shifter mounted, everything shifts as it should and my CDL light comes on as it should.

Thanks again everyone.

PS. Mike I would be interested to know why the traction control, ABS, and hill descent are disabled with the CDL engaged.

That only happens when you start the truck with the CDL locked.

There's a workaround that involves clipping a wire, it's talked about here at step 20:
