Quick ? on CPS
I read through numerous threads about the CPS sensor prior to purchasing my Disco 2 and had planned on keeping a spare in the truck but had not done so yet. I have already ordered 2 bosh sensors so I will have one as a spare, but I wanted to confirm the symptoms before I get into this too far. Drove the Disco the other day for about an hour and a half and shut the vehicle off in the driveway. About ten minutes later it would not restart, just crank like no spark. Came back a couple hours later and it starts just fine, but I leave it idling in the driveway and it dies about 20 minutes later. Next day it starts fine, I get brave and take it to town without issue. Today it will crank over but not start. I tested for spark and there is none to be found, I can hear the fuel pump kick in when the key is turned on. From the threads I have read this sounds to me to be a classic CPS issue, does it sound like I am on the right track or is there somethig else I should be looking into? Thanks!

Sounds like a likely culprit
I defer to the more experienced members, but CPS seems a likely cause. It's a cheap issue to address, especially if you have ordered a couple of spares. You will definitely get a barrage of people telling you to "read the codes" before proceeding...
These symptoms are exactly as I experienced about 9 months ago. $75 and problem solved.

CKP failure often produces no code in certain conditions. See attached pages. When replacing every bolt and spacer must return to same position. The sensor is actually a pickup coil wound around that point that is spaced exactly a certain distance from the slotted disc, and creates a pulse as the disk flies by. Once wire insulation of the coil begins to fail and short out or go open, the pulses are not reliable, ECU stops sending commands for spark.
