Question Can you bench test a CPS

Still trying to solve my no spark issue. Can you bench test a CPS. I would really like to figure it out instead of parts replacing.

I do not have any spark.

I was told on here that it is not normal that both coil packs go bad, anything else besides CPS a suspect?

If you do a google search there's a lot of info on it. You'll likely need a multimeter as well.

I read your other thread...
I do not know if you can bench test a crank sensor or not.
They are fairly cheap and are a VERY common thing to go bad on a DII.
I would replace it, that controls spark and the fuel pump.
That is what tell the plugs when to fire, and no signal from the crank sensor and the fuel pump assumes that the engine is not running so it shuts down the fuel pump.

The coils on a DII can go bad, but not that common.

Start with the $65 crank sensor.

thanks guys, spike the google thing is so obvious i missed it. It makes sense, I don't think I heard the fuel pump. I just hate spending money without being sure.

With a decent scanner you can check pretty much any sensor in live time or snap shot frames.

Thanks Mike for chiming in, I was not sure if you could bench test it or not.

I think though that it will cost just as much to get a good multimeter to do the test as it woukd to just buy a new CPS. Heck find another LR buddy and ask if you can test his on your rig, just be careful pulling it out not to screw it up.
