r.i.p?
Well I know for sure its not the end of its life just yet. But here's my story. I go to Valero and fill up my tank and purchase a car wash (for reference the car wash was the biggest package you could get, ie. RainX, undercarraige, rim clean, wax, ect) along with it because it was getting rather dirty. So I turn my car on after I get gas, go get in line for the car wash and when my turn comes around I pull in, turn the car off and let technology clean my car. 15 minutes later I go to turn my car on. Turns on fine put it in drive and attempt to go. Before I couldn't take my foot off the break after shifting gears it dies. So I sit there for 10 minutes with people behind me waiting to use the car wash and my car not starting. It will start, and then die instantly. So I ended up having two people push me out of the car wash. 25 minutes later of trying to start it no luck. But after a while it started to not even turn over. Now I put the key inin, turn the key, and nothing happens. Yet when I put it in nuetral it tries to start but dies. Except now when in nuetral it tries to start but doesn't. So 2 hours pass by and geico finally sent a tow truck. So now my baby is sitting in the driveway and I'm carless.
at first I thought it just got some electrical things wet...but its been hours and nothing has worked. So maybe did some of the high pressure under carraige wash kill my car?nothing was visibly wet when I popped the hood. Battery maybe? I'm going to try and jump or recharge battery tomorrow. Thx so much. It was rather depressing to see my rover lift up onto the tow truck
Btw its a 96 disco

Either a bad fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter.
Open the hood, on the passenger side of the fuel rail is a tire valve cap and under it is a schrader valve.
Turn the key "ON" and then back off, do this 3-4 times and then press the valve.
If fuel squirts you in the face your fuel PSI is good, if it dribbles like a old man trying to pee it is bad.
Replace the fuel filter, $11 at Wal-Mart, behind the rear passenger wheel.
If that does not cure it then it is a bad fuel pump, easy to replace but alot of money for a new one.

So I went to go attempt to turn it on this morning, looking as if it were to magically turn on, and I put itin nuetral and tried turning it on. It turned on perfectly except there was a kind of clicking noise as if only a few cylindars were going off or something. So it still could be wet? I hope? I'm just hoping that it will work after it sits through todays 100 degree weather. If not, new fuel pump I'm gonna go for
It is turning over fine but wont start, thats what you said.
If now it clicks when you try and start it your battery is dead, charge it.
You ran it down trying to start it all those times.

Spike, you'd know better on this than I would...
however, is it an automatic?
if it is, and it only will try to start in neutral... that sounds like a neutral/park indicator, 5 speed and I'd say clutch switch, fir the cranking problem...
will it idle and die immediately when you try to put it in gear?
if so, i would look at those things as well...
some automatic vehicles have a "relay" of sorts to bump the idle up when the vehicle is shifted into gear to keep the car from stalling. probably in the ECU on newer stuff, but, if thats what its doing might be worth looking into.
also, those high pressure water sprayers can rip off wiring, knock old connectors loose all kinds of bad things.
if you're not that mechanically inclined or have a lift or way to get under the truck for a while with a flashlight, it may be worth paying for an hour or two diagnosis at a local shop.

I re-read his post, it will only turn over when in neutral...needs to adjust the shifter cable because the trans is not all the way in park and the neutral safety switch wont let you start the car unless it is in park or neutral.
Pop the trim piece off of the top of the shifter handle and tighten the nut.
As for the dies once it is put into gear...fuel pressure problem or a bad fuel temp sensor.
Because it happened at the carwash it could also be water in the ECU but I doubt it.
