Hello all,
2003 Disco 177,000 miles. I have a loud metal crunching noise from back right when making right turns low speed. New terrafirma med coils and shocks with 2 inch lift, all new wattage bushings and arms. Can i replace the radial arm bushings myself or do i need a press?
any ideas other than bushings to explain noise. Brake dustguard in tact, hub bearing ok, brakes work well Do I need a press to install this bushing?
You will need a press to install OEM rubber bushings as pictured. You could cut the old ones out and install poly bushings that don't need a press. Time to buy a press or go for the Powerflex bushings. I have not used them for Radius Arms but did for Watts and Panhard. I like them and easy to install.
If you do a search under my username I have a bunch of posts about pressing in new bushings last summer that might be helpful. Overall though, super simple and very much in the DIY realm. Presses are inexpensive and useful to have for other things anyway. The only other “specialty” tool you’ll need is a big enough torque wrench.
See if there is a shop near by that will push out the old and press in the new. I went OEM bushings, figured they lasted 20 years on the first set. I removed the arms from one axle and brought the arms to a shop. $200 to get all four done for me.
