Radiator Issues with a 99 Disco II
Two days ago I was driving my Land Rover and I noticed that the AC wasn't very cold. I looked down at my temperature gauge and it was about to overheat. So I drove it home, let it cool off, put some water on it, thought that would help, but also knew that I needed to get the radiator looked at. Yesterday I drove the Land Rover to work (about 30 miles) and I noticed it getting pretty hot again, but it didn't overheat. I took it by ageneral lube and tireshop yesterday after work and their best guess was that there was poor circulation in the radiator and it could be the water pump or the thermostat. I was going to drive it home and take it in this morning to have it looked at by a shop, but I never made it home. It overheated on me about 15 miles outside of the town I work in, and I had to have my wife come give me a jump so I could get it started again. Long story made short, I had the LR towed home last nightand this morning my father in law was working on it some, but took it over to the shop. The good news is that it starts, but the Service Engine Soon light is now on. Anyone have a clue what this could be? My dad thinks it's a head gasket, and my father in law thinks it'sthe water pump or the engine itself. If anyone has an ideaPLEASE let me know. I'm super frustrated right now because I haven't even had this car for 2 weeks and this is already happening. Thanks!

RE: Radiator Issues with a 99 Disco II
I forgot to hop on here earlier and give an update. My wife called me earlier after she had spoken with her dad and it is indeed a water pump. We're getting it fixed. And then I think I'm going to trade it back in. I really wanted a 4Runner in the first place, and what happened yesterday kind of opened my eyes to that, and the guy who sits next to me at work told me that his brother has a range rover and have had nothing but problems with it, so I think that's the route I'm going to go. But thanks for all the advice, both of you who responded!

Yoda's overheat too. LR's are VERY reliable if you take care of them. Sorry to hear that you got turned off by something so simple. A water pump is indeed a wearout item, no matter what the make or model. But with the Yoda you will replace the water pump every 60k when you replace the timing belt so you shouldnt ever have a water pump go out on you I guess.

well let's see...i've had my corolla for over 3 years and have over 111,000 miles on it and have yet to replace the timing belt OR the water pump. at least with a toyota you can get parts locally as opposed to LR. God knows how long it's going to take to get the water pump in. but thank you for your input.

You havent replaced the timing belt yet? Dude, every 60k or you are looking at a new engine when it breaks. Read you owners manual.
And just a FYI, it only takes a hour to replace the water pump on a LR and you can get one from AutoZone.
