I am trying to get my radiator out but I can’t seem to figure out how this other cooler is connected on the driver side. Would love some help trying to replace radiator without messing with this
other cooler.
That is the transmission cooler. There is a special tools you can rent or buy at auto supply retailers to detach the transmission line to the transmission cooler.
Don't lift out the radiator with the transmission line still on. The lines are malleable but connection point that does a 90 degree turn is not and will break. I learned that the hard way.
Once you have unhooked the transmission lines and lift out the radiator it's simple to see how it fits into a groove on one side and a screw holds it in on the other side.
Pulling it out carefully as the video shows worked for me.
But it's not back together yet. Hopefully the 90 holds up for me during re install. Wasnt aware that was a failure point.
O well
I found some instructions on this forum that basically center around going in from the behind the grill and then it will come out easily. I cant find them right now, just dug around. But I just replaced mine, did not need to removed the transcooler.
You can remove a bolt on one side of the cooler, and then angle it out. It's not so bad on 03-04's since they just have a transmission cooler vs the 99-02's which have an oil cooler as well. If you remove the bolt holding the cooler you can then angle it out and leave the cooler in place.
