Default Transmission cooler replacement

I just changed the radiator on my 00 D2 Saturday. Today the trans cooler dumped all its fluid on my garage floor. Does the radiator have to come back out to change the cooler? And is a tool needed to disconnect the line on this and the oil cooler? I left them both connected when I did the radiator. Which may have contributed to the failure. Hoping to fix it Friday so I can wheel it on Saturday. That parts truck is paying for itself this week.

No special tool. Push the hose up on the cooler more, squeeze the black clip down on the hose, then pull off. Not sure on removing the rad. I didn't have to, but I don't have the stock radiator fan or an ac condenser.

You can replace it with the radiator in place but I think it is much easier to do it off the truck. I've done it both ways (but on the oil cooler... same thing), you just lose fluids. Removing the fan and pushing the radiator back gives you some room but it is still tight and the attached hoses fight against you.

Getting the fittings off can be a real pain in the butt.

I'm having a hard time getting the hoses off the cooler on the parts truck and that has the radiator out. I'm not even trying with the radiator in the truck. I'm going to tackle it tomorrow.

Those fittings. They are tough. There is a tool for it (I've never had one, but have read that there is one) but I have always just fought them, as you are. Sometimes they come off easy and sometimes they will drive you to madness.

Push fitting all the way on. Then push in collar and at the same time grab fitting and pull off in a twisting motion.

That push in collar is the equivalent of the tool they sell to remove those fittings, but LR fittings have the tool built in.

I'm am going to give a try today Abran. I figured if I'm ripping the radiator out again, the cooling system is getting an overhaul. I ordered a new thermostat, water pump, fan clutch and some hoses. After the cooling system and trans cooler, I'll install the D1 CDL linkage and paint the headliner. I want to drive it to the 4wheel and off road jamboree in Bloomsburg in July.
