the 1st owner said that 3 shops diagnosed head gasket replacement. Sold truck instead last fall and I used it entire winter with no issues until weather got warmer. It seems they used some stopleak or something. I see silvery chunck of dust on pipes.
About your question, i did not try coz I got a used working radiator. Someone suggested get CLR and fill radiator and keep clr overnight and flush. It might work but I dont use plain water that builds up crystal deposits. Not sure if clr works on hardened coolant or dexcool.

The CLR treatment is a last ditch effort to try and remove any water based deposits. Alot of people are cheap & just top off with tap water. Eventually it gets stuff like calcium/iron deposits. CLR can remove some of that junk, on a cheap budget vs a new radiator. I myself just replace the darn thing for 50-75.00.

I did the CLR treatment on my RRC & D1 because those radiators aren’t 50-75.00 and it did break up a lot of crap inside those radiators.

X1 ................ always use 50/50 OAT and RO filtered water, generally ordinary tap water is full of calcium and iron deposits which harden on the matrix and block the rad.
