Default Radio lights

My radio in my 01 Disco2 has a lighting problem. The display lightys up day and night ...but the buttons do not illuminate at night. My question is ......is this a D2 bug ? I can see the buttons in the day, but at night it's like a gambling game. Is there an easy remedy or should I pull the radio and send it out?? Replies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

The wiring diagram shows a circuit from fuse 33 inside the truck going to connector C923 behind radio, on pin 13, for button light.

Damn you're good.....I would have never found that !!!! Tomorrow I'll take it apart and see what gives Probably pin 13 is a ground wire going to the internal bulbs. I can't thank you enough !!!!!!!! Had a feeling it could be a lose connection Now I need a Corona Lite with some Salsa and Nacho's.....1st to set up the portable "SUN LAMP" and get the bottle of salt water spray and a small fan and last a pair of eyepatches. Playing summer in FEB is cool!!!

Might be worth looking into. I did find a match to this radio on eBay that is jail broken(no code needed) for 55 bukks so I bought it. It's really worth the $$ if I don't have to replace them. Going to hook up a 12v device and see if I can power up just the lights then work back from there. My Mercedes had a problem with solder cracking in the Bosche switches after so many years so I'll look at connections first.

took the cover off the radio and used a 12volt battery to test the lights. Well they all work. So the problem is leading to the lights. Tomorrow I am going to test the leads on the plugs with a tester lamp to see if there is power to the radio lights when the lights are on. I believe that the problem either lies in the radio or the plug on the back of the radio. I also noticed that there appears to be some sort of residue on the harness like an oily film. No sign of any leaks under the dash....but !!!. Also tried to light the lamps by putting 12v to the terminal and use the ground on the radio hsng...but no lights.

got the radio poped it in and it started right up....no code needed....I was surprised to.....bit did work....I guess from my conversations with this guy certain years did not require a code. The one that was in my 2001 didn't require a code either. I took it out several times trying to find the problem and NEVER had to recode it when I put it back in. Good luck
