Default radio question

i have 2 disco 1 radios. one with the faceplate crunched and the other has no code or serial number. my idea is to take the faceplate off the one that's not crunched and put it on the one that has the serial number and call the lr dealer to get the code. will that work. or will the computer get confused. anyone done this.

a faceplate is just a faceplate (a beauty panel and the buttons), however they are not designed to come off. your plan should work fine if you can manage to get them off and then on again without destroying it.

its the same radio as was in before, except you added a faceplate?

i.e., the backlight and am worked just hours ago?

no hasn't been in my truck ever. don't know if they worked before. so i have no guarantee that either should work even if properly connected

I would have to rack that one up to faulty equipment, the AM is pretty straight forward, if the antenna is connected the radio should work (unless equipment is bad).
It is a bit controversial of how the dual antennas work, some say one is a primary and one is a secondary (meaning the radio automatically picks up and uses the stronger of the 2) however I believe one is fm and the other is am. I used the main when I put in aftermarket and I don't get any AM stations on my Alpine, and I don't think I am the only one with this problem.
As for the back lit display, if your other dash lights are working then that is most likely a radio problem.
