I was talking with a Rover service rep today and he mentioned that some of the 03 Discos had the CDL installed on the trans but not hooked up.
All that was needed was a new transfer shifter and the CDL would work.
Also to connect the wires to illuminate the dash light.
If your looking for one of these models it might pay to slide under the truck and inspect the front transfer for the linkage fittings, you might have it.

What I have read on the topic is that the 99.5 to 01.5 D2s had the mechanicals in the TC, but no linkage. The 01.5s and 02s had no mechanicals. And in 03 and 04, they went back to the original TC with the mechanicals *and installed the control from the factory*.

Right or wrong, old geniuses? :-)

Edited: Apparently I was wrong; 04's had it, but 03's did not. And this editor doesn't know how to do strikethrough, damnit. :-}

 

The '04 had the front output mechanicals and linkage to be sure.

AFAIK, the '03s had niether.

YES the damn 03's had neither linkage or internal mechanism and its been damned with the oil pump failure curse...of course I had no idea till after I bought it... like most

but I love mine...

 

02 and 03 did not come with a CDL t/case, the diff can be added if you are looking for better traction.
